Dr. Tim Miller, DDS, BSc (dental materials)
I, Dr. Miller, come from a medical family, my father is a veterinarian and my mother a registered nurse and a marriage, family, child counselor (MFCC). I had an interest in science at a young age and I remember thinking of becoming an astronomer or an oceanographer. This interest naturally led to a bachelors degree in Biochemistry from The University of San Diego. While at the university I also realized my interest in psychology and human behavior. I took the Myer's, Briggs interest inventory, and a few other tests, in an effort to find a career that best suited my personality. Optometry and Dentistry were suggested. After visiting local schools of each, an interest in dentistry was sparked. I applied to dental schools and was pleased to find I was a desirable candidate. I chose to attend the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry and graduated in 1996. I began working for a wonderful dentist in San Diego, Dr. Bruce Laurie. Not only did I learn top notch dentistry, more importantly I learned how to create an office that feels good, an office where one wants to go to work. Creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere is as important to me as the dentistry itself. As my career has progressed, my interest in more complex dentistry has grown. One of my favorite things is to give someone back teeth they lost with artificial tooth roots (dental implants). Even more exciting is to help someone wearing an ill-fitting denture, a denture that makes it hard to speak and eat. I notice a loss of confidence and even worse emotional disturbances in people with these problems. It is so satisfying to help change this, you see people coming back to the office holding their heads high, just the way they carry themselves let's one know they are feeling so much better.
I am happily married and have three wonderful dogs, nope, no children. In my time away from work I interact with my wife and dogs, read, enjoy fine food (maybe a little too much) and I have to say I actually enjoy learning more about dentistry. Dentists need 25 hours of continuing education a year, I have earned more than 450 hours in the last three years!
